    Overview of Maruti Alto 800

    After the huge success of Alto and Alto K10, Maruti Suzuki India has launched new avatar of Alto, which will be sold as ‘Alto 800’. Maruti has decided to discontinue the Alto F8D and it has been repalced by Alto 800. Alto 800 is costly in comparison to the Alto F8D and is cheaper than Alto K10. Seems like Maruti doesn't want to lose any customer and has widened the choice for Alto lovers with much better designed and feature loaded car.
    The Alto 800 is available in seven variants with prices starting from INR 2.44 lakhs (ex-showroom price in New Delhi) for the base model and INR 3.56 lakhs for the top variant of CNG+Petrol. Maruti Suzuki released first set of three official images of Alto 800 on 10th October, 2012. It is a mix of Alto K10, Hyundai i10, Maruti A-Star and recently launched new 2013 Ford Figo.

    Design and Interiors of Maruti Alto 800

    In terms of design Alto 800 borrows design cues from Maruti A-Star, Hyundai i10 and Alto K10. It also has striking resemblance to Ford Figo (2013 model) when viewed from front. The side view of Alto 800 is almost same like the Alto F8D. The rear end of Alto 800 features all-new hatch, tail lamps and bumper. The front-end also features new bumper, new peeled-back head lamps and new design for the fog lights. The interiors of Alto 800 are all-new with no resemblance to the Alto and Alto K10. It features very good looking center console with comfortable controls for the air-conditioner and proper placement of the gear lever. The instrument dials are very neat and easy to read.

    Dashboard and Center Console of Maruti Alto 800

    The interiors of Alto 800 are all-new with V-shaped center console which houses the HVAC controls (basic knobs) plus the single DIN music system (optional in low end variants). Above the center console there is a semi-dome type shape with AC vents in it. There is a horizontal shaped storage space on the left of center console (above the glove box). The front power window switches have been awkwardly placed on the gear box console near the handbrake lever. The company has enhanced the looks further by giving silver accents on the steering wheel, around the side AC vents and on the door handles. 

    Engine and Gearbox of Maruti Alto 800

    Maruti Alto 800 is powered by the same 796cc, F8D, 3 cylinder petrol engine which is also doing duty under the hood of Alto but it has re-tuned for better power, torque and improved fuel efficient. It generates maximum power of 47.5 Bhp with maximum torque of 69 Nm. The power figures are up by 3.5 bhp while the torque by up by 11 percent (7 nm). The company has fine-tuned the engine to increase the mileage figures. The engine is mated to five-speed manual gearbox.

    Maruti Alto 800 Mileage

    The ARAI tested mileage figures of Alto 800 are 22.74 kmpl, which is higher in comparison to the Hyundai Eon. Expected real-world mileage figures are around 20-21 kmpl on highway and 15-17 kmpl in city. Maruti Alto 800 is also available with option of CNG. The CNG technology is branded as intelligent Gas Port injection technology (i-GPI). The CNG variant is expected to return mileage of around 30.46 km/kg on highway.

    Dimensions and Ground Clearance

    Maruti Suzuki India has reduced the length of Alto F8D by 100mm, the length of Alto 800 is 3395mm. Though the wheelbase of the car same at 2360mm. The width of the car is 1490mm (more by 15mm) and height is 1475mm (more by 15mm). The ground clearance of Alto 800 is same at 160mm, which is quite good for Indian roads.

     

    Boot Space of Alto 800

    The boot capacity of Alto 800 is only 177 litres. It is sufficient considering the size of the car but it is less in comparison to the Hyundai Eon's boot space of 211 litres.

     

    Suspension and Braking

    Maruti Alto 800 sports gas filled McPherson strut, torsion roll control device at front and the rear suspension is coil spring, gas filled shock absorbers with three link rigid axle and isolated trailing arm. As far as brakes are concerned it features solid disc brakes at front and rear brakes are drum type.

    The top-of-the-line Lxi Airbag variant of Alto 800 is expected to be fully loaded with host of styling and comfort features like power steering, AC, power windows, full wheel covers, driver side airbag (optional), music system (optional), body coloured bumpers, body coloured door handles and adjustable outside rear-view mirrors. Sadly, Maruti Suzuki has not provided ABS with EBD, not even as an option. Also, the Lx variant with a price tag of 2.76 lakhs doesn't come with power steering, power windows and body coloured bumpers.

     

    Music System of Alto 800

    Maruti Alto 800 comes with option of a single DIN factory-fitted music system. You can get it installed as an accessory from the authorised dealer.

     

    Safety Features of Maruti Alto 800

    Maruti Alto 800 is the first 800cc car by Maruti Suzuki India to feature driver side airbag (optional). It will also come with other active and passive safety features like front frog lamps, safety belts etc.

  1. People blindly trust Maruti and its huge service network and history supports it.This car is the best choice for the Indians which have low budget of 2-3 lac and want a modern car which can compete with other European brands small car liek Hyundai Eon,Volkswagen Polo and Ford Figo.
