Beware, People Who Don't Use Facebook Are 'Suspicious'

Social networks have influenced our life in many ways than we actually imagined. It even went to an extent which made people say, “If you are not on Facebook, It is possible you don’t actually exist.”

But the things are taking a new turn now, as the absence of a person from the social network has started to be related to something “suspicious.” Der Taggspiegel, a German magazine went to extreme saying that “not having a Facebook account could be the first sign that you are a mass murderer.” The magazine pointed out that James Holmes, the accused Colorado theatre shooter, who killed 12 people and Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian mass murder who killed 77 people with a car bomb and mass shooting, both did not use Facebook. Adding to it, psychologists have noted that many mass murderers have a common ground- the lack of online presence.

Recently, Forbes reported that HR departments are becoming more wary of the young candidates who don’t use the social network. Some employers believe that either the profile was full of red flags which forced the candidate to delete account or they are simply “suspicious.”

According to a State.com report, these rules mainly apply to young people and not the productive adults, who became established even before the origin and popularity of social networks.

So, as psychologist Christopher Moeller say,”the use of Facebook indicates a person has a healthy social network,” does its absence mean a person is abnormal, dysfunctional or even dangerous?
