BSNL launches 3G pocket router for Rs. 5,800

BSNL, the state-run telecom operator has launched a 3G wireless pocket router. This router has been launched with communications service provider Shyam Networks.

The device is called the Winknet Mf50. It is quite a handy device, as it has the ability to connect more than one device to the Internet. The device will run on a 3G-enabled SIM card. The device is SIM locked with BSNL. Upon purchasing the device, customers will receive a voucher worth Rs. 60, which comes bundled with 1GB of data usage.

The deal between BSNL and Shyam Networks works like a two way street. BSNL will provide SIM cards to Shyam Networks who will sell the device locked with the service providers SIM card.

"We have 3G network in more than 850 cities. We are pleased to announce reverse bundling of Winknet Mf50 with BSNL 3G SIMs," BSNL CMD RK Upadhyay told reporters.

"The router will surely help towards providing seamless broadband connectivity for those who are always on the move and need broadband connectivity," Shyam Networks Executive Vice President Nafis Kazim said.

The router will be available in the market for Rs 5,800 across 15 circles across India.

This isn’t the first 3G Wi-Fi hub that we have seen hitting store shelves in India. In the recent past we have seen the Tata Photon Wi-Fi Hub giving consumers similar features. The device costs Rs. 5,999 and post-paid plans begin at Rs. 600. The Tata Photon Wi-Fi Hub has the ability to connect up to 5 devices at the same time and offers download speeds up to 7.2 Mbps.
