Progress Software acquires Telerik for $262.5 Million

Telerik a bulgarian company well known by its UI tools for web, mobile and desktop applications has been acquired by Progress Software, 30 years company since its inception has expanded its capability with the well known UI tool maker Telerik, acquisition valued at $262.5 Million.

What is Android One?

Android One is a standard created by Google for Android systems, mainly targeted at people buying their first smartphone, and customers in the developing world. Android One smartphones will run software close to stock Android, without the often extensive vendor-specific modifications that many smartphone vendors apply. Security updates will be handled by Google, avoiding problems some earlier phones have had with lacking security updates. Google also makes a reference hardware design available for Android One, meaning that OEMs just have to manufacture the phone. The first smartphone to be part of the Android One comes from Micromax, one of the most popular smartphone brands in India. Its Android One smartphone packs features that are most important for users there. Those are FM Radio, Dual SIM support, microSD card and a low price.

The Android One program guarantees that the phones that come out of it will run on the most recent Android release, as Google will push updates to those phones similar to the way it handles GPE devices. 

Android One smartphones were by the Indian brands Micromax, Spice and Karbonn in September 2014, and other like Alcatel, Lava etc are going to follow gradually be getting hands on it. 

Telstra signs network-to-network interconnection pact with Tata Communications

Telstra on Tuesday said it has inked a network-to-network interconnection agreement with Tata Communications. The network-to-network interconnection will utilise Tata Communications 116 points of presence (PoPs), extending Telstra's reach to tier-2 and tier-3 cities such as Surat, Jaipur and Trichy.

"The new arrangement with Tata Communications was part of Telstra's broader MPLS strategy, which includes NNI agreements in emerging markets that are of high value to customers and the expansion of its own on-net PoPs," Telstra Global Enterprise & Services, head of connectivity and platforms portfolio, Bernadette Noujaim Baldwin said."

The supercomputer has been launched after extensive testing conducted by a seasoned team headed by IIT Kanpur’s deputy director SC Srivastava.

Android "Simplocker" ransomware trojan targets SD cards

Android users have been warned again that they too can become victims of ransomware.

A Cryptolocker style Android virus dubbed Simplocker has been detected by security firm Eset, which confirmed that it scrambles files on the SD cards of infected devices before issuing a demand for payment.

The message is in Russian and the demand for payment is in Ukrainian hryvnias, equating to somewhere between £15 and £20.

SAP is planning to cut jobs as company shifts to cloud computing

SAP AG (SAP), the German technology company is eliminating jobs across divisions as it seeks to move faster and deliver more of its products as online cloud-computing services instead of software that runs in customers’ data centers, said Jim Dever, a spokesman for SAP.
